A recent article in the wall street journal entitled ” The untapped power of erotic capital” caught my attention.  Don’t  let the title put you off. It confirms  what we have known for years- that personal attractiveness does matter in the job market.  Attractive men and women do better in sales and in management, as well as other areas in the business world.  The surprise here is that the correlation of earning more for men who are attractive is even stronger than for women.  I have always said that improving someone’s appearance is not superficial- whether we like it or not, our appearance influences how we are treated in the world.  And as the world mirrors this image back, we feel better about ourselves. With nonsurgical options now being better than ever, we have good surgical and nonsurgical options to improve a man or a woman’s appearance.  In fact, plastic surgeons in the Boston area and throughout the US typically perform 10 non-surgical procedures for every 1 surgical procedure. I have patients almost everyday who are surprised and pleased with the improvements that can be gained with relatively simple methods. They frequently hesitate to ask, because they are “not ready for surgery”, but have concerns about facial aging that have bothered them. Many times the problem is volume loss in the face that can be improved safely and easily in the office, with little if any “down time”.
